About

John O’Brien & Associates

Experience

My office has been practising in Ecclesial Design for over 30 years & has developed considerable expertise in the design & construction of new & existing, Catholic Cathedrals, Churches, Chapels & Shrines in Australia, New Zealand & Papua New Guinea.

Philosophical approach

I passionately believe that such designs must embrace the requirements of the Liturgy, the Church's Traditions, the physical needs of a particular community, the importance of prayer in a serene environment, which also uplifts the spirit & the significance of beauty so that the church evolves into a "Worthy Place of God"-- The Author of Beauty.

Construction

The construction of ecclesial buildings is extremely important, so that they are cost effective, structurally sound, low maintenance, waterproof, and compliant with the relevant codes and approval processes. To achieve successful outcomes, we ensure that only registered competent contractors, with a proven track record, are engaged to work on our projects.

"I needed a Devout Catholic Ecclesial Architect for the new Cathedral in Mt Hagen, someone who knew what a cathedral was for & who could adapt to the culture & conditions of the Highlands.

I believe that I found that person in the Architect, Mr John O'Brien"

Archbishop Douglas Young, SVD
